① coordinate conjunctions - coordination(and, but, or, nor, yet, so) - 같은 form

ex) Tom was happy with Jack's decision, and so was Tim, too (도치 o)

ex) Not only did Tom jump out of the room (도치 o), but also he slid on the floor (도치 x)

ex) Just as Tom did in the room, so I wanted to jump and slide on the floor

ex) [being a good flight attendant] means [making your passengers feel relaxed] - 같은 form

cf) Copular verb일 때 다른 form이지만 정문 - It is verb interesting and of great help

+ Joint (combinatory) / distributive (segregatory) coordination

ex) Steve and George have made a lot of successful movies, (together) or (respectively)

+ The meanings of 'and' - addition, temporal succession, cause and effect, condition, and concession

⑴ condition - ex) You tell me what you heard, and I'll tell you everything

+ the condition meaning of 'or' - ex) you tell me what you heard, or I'll not tell you anything

⑵ concession - you can eat as much of this as you want, and you won't put on weight

② subordinate conjunctions - embedded clause

⑴ complementizer - that, if, for, whether / ⑵ adjunctizer - Wh-phrase

 

* copular/complex-transitive verb

1. copular - subject와 연관(subject complement or predication adjunct)

ex) Daniel stayed [very quiet/in bed]

+ current copula - appear, be, feel, look, happen / resulting copula - grow, become, get, go, transpire

2. complex transitive - object와 연관(object complement)

ex) Linda kept Daniel [very quiet/in bed]

 

+ complements - ex) they treated her kindly, ex) the professor worded the preface carefully, ex) I put the ball on a table, ex) I slipped the key into the lock, ex) I take the key out of the lock, ex) I see you to the door(escort)
