해석 개념 8. ~하는 것을 '동사'하다.

- 주어 자리와 마찬가지로 목적어 자리에도 '동명사'가 올 수 있다.

동명사를 목적어로 취하는 동사는 끝(finish, quit, stop, give up), 회피와 부정(avoid, mind, deny), 지속(keep, practice, involve)의 의미를 가지고 있으며 이 외에 enjoy, consider, suggest 등이 있다.

또한 '동사' 뿐만 아니라 '전치사'도 '동명사'를 목적어로 가진다.

 

You should avoid(넌 피해야 한다) [judging your own value](다른 사람의 가치를 평가하는 것을) by(~함으로써) [comparing yourself with others](네 자신을 다른 사람들과 비교함으로써)

- 이 문장에서 [judging your own value]는 avoid의 목적어이며,

 [comparing yourself with others]는 by의 목적어이다.

 

 

해석 개념 9. ~할 것을 '동사'하다.

- 목적어 자리에는 '동명사' 뿐만 아니라 'to 부정사'도 올 수 있다.

to 부정사를 목적어로 취하는 동사는 소망과 기대(want, hope, wish, expect), 결심과 계획(plan, decide, choose), 약속과 거절(promise, refuse)의 의미를 가지고 있으며 이 외에 need, attempt, manage, get 등이 있다.

 

Some people choose(몇몇 사람들은 선택한다) [to know the truth about their health].(그들의 건강에 대한 진실을 알 것을)

- 이 문장에서 [to know the truth about their health]는 choose의 목적어이다.
